چکیده

Actinic granuloma is a rare, idiopathic disorder of middleaged adults that always appears in sun-exposed skin [1,2]. It is a form of granulomatous dermatosis characterized by annular plaques with central atrophy and raised erythematous margins that are similar to those observed in granuloma annulare (GA) [3]. A 42-year-old man presented with a three-month history of an asymptomatic erythematous annular and serpiginous lesion on his forehead. There was no history of preceding trauma to the area. He was not on any medications. Examination revealed an erythematous to brown annular to serpiginous plaque with central atrophy (Figure 1). Systemic examination revealed no abnormalities. Results of full blood count and multiple biochemical analyses were unremarkable. Skin biopsy showed normal epidermis with significant solar elastosis and granulomatous reaction in dermis, composed of numerous multinucleated giant cells. There was no area of necrobiosis. Verhoeff von Gieson stained sections revealed loss of elastic fiber in the center but the presence of fragments of elastin within the giant cells (Figure 2). Alcian blue staining was negative of mucin (Figure 3). O’Brien’s actinic granuloma is a chronic disease that affects middle-aged individuals of either sex who have a history of intense sun exposure [3]. It begins as small skinActinic granuloma

Histopathologic Features of Giant Cell Arteritis in an Actinic Granuloma Lesion

The association between actinic granuloma and giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis) has been claimed by some authors. There is a hypothesis that actinic radiation has the principal role in the etiology of both diseases in a similar way. Here, we report a case of actinic granuloma that had characteristic pathologic features of giant cell arteritis in histopathologic examination without clini...

Infiltrated papules on the trunk and headaches: A case of actinic granuloma and a review of the literature☆

Actinic granuloma is a rare granulomatous reaction that is more commonly seen in females and thought to occur as an autoimmune response to actinic damage of elastic tissue. We discuss a case of a patient with actinic granuloma presenting with concomitant temporal arteritis. Our case and review of the literature emphasize the association between actinic granuloma and temporal arteritis, a seriou...

Annular elastolytic giant cell granuloma of conjunctiva: A case report

Annular elastolytic giant cell granuloma is a condition characterized histologically by damaged elastic fibers associated with preponderance of giant cells along with absence of necrobiosis, lipid, mucin, and pallisading granuloma. It usually occurs on sun-damaged skin and hence the previous name actinic granuloma. A similar process occurs on the conjunctiva. Over the past three decades only fo...

Actinic Granuloma with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

Actinic granuloma is an uncommon granulomatous disease, characterized by annular erythematous plaque with central clearing predominately located on sun-damaged skin. The pathogenesis is not well understood, ultraviolet radiation is recognized as precipitating factor. We report a case of a 52-year-old woman who presented with asymptomatic annular erythematous plaques on the forehead and both che...

Actinic granuloma presenting as tender, linear plaques on the lateral fingers in a patient with newly diagnosed esophageal cancer

INTRODUCTION Actinic granuloma is a granulomatous reaction resulting from longstanding sun damage to the dermis. It is described clinically by the appearance of flesh-colored or pink papules, which classically coalesce into annular lesions. Diagnosis is typically made histopathologically, with findings of granulomatous inflammation associated with elastophagocytosis andmacrophage ingestion of e...

AEGCG: annular elastolytic giant cell granuloma INTRODUCTION Annular elastolytic giant cell granuloma (AEGCG) is an uncommon condition belonging to the family of elastolytic granuloma, which also includes actinic granuloma, atypical necrobiosis lipoidica of the face and scalp, and Miescher’s granuloma. Classification of AEGCG as a distinct entity has been controversial. Although some consider i...
